Privacy policy

Trejournal collects no personal data. There is no account, no server and no analytics. Everything you record stays on your own device.

Who is behind the app

Trejournal is developed and published by Bjerkestrand Utvikling, org. no. 838460682, proprietor Bjørnar Bjerkestrand, registered in Norway. Privacy enquiries go to support@byggjournal.com.

What you record

Your records — positions, measurements, text, dates and anything else you enter — are stored in a database inside the app's own storage area on the device. Photos and attachments are stored as files in the same place, and the database keeps track of the file names.

None of this is transmitted to the publisher, and none of it is shared with third parties. The publisher has no technical means of reading, retrieving or restoring the content, because it never leaves the device.

If you enter information about other people, such as the name of a landowner or a contact in a record, you or your business decide what is recorded and who the resulting document is sent to.

Location

The app requests location while in use, to place your record at the right spot on the map. The position is stored with the record on the device, like the rest of the content. It is not sent out of the app.

The app does not request background location and does not track you when you are not using it. You can withdraw the permission at any time in Settings and still use the app — you then place records on the map manually.

Camera and photos

The app requests access to the camera and photo library only when you choose to attach an image to a record. The image is copied into the app's own storage and stays there. It is not uploaded anywhere.

Photos are stored without embedded location data in the image file itself. A tree's position is a field on the record, not something hidden inside the photo. Share a photo on its own and no coordinates travel with it.

Map tiles — the only thing that goes over the network

The app fetches map tiles from Kartverket inside Norway, from OpenTopoMap elsewhere, and uses Apple's own map base layer. This is the app's only network traffic.

What is sent is a request for a particular map tile, together with the device's IP address — as any request on the internet must have a sender. Which tile is fetched is determined by what is shown on your screen, not by where the device is.

No records, photos, measurements or positions accompany the request. The tile providers cannot see what you are documenting, and they receive no data from the app's database. How each provider handles the IP address is their processing, not the publisher's, and the publisher receives nothing from them.

What the app does not collect

Export and sharing

The app can produce six kinds of file from your content: a PDF per tree, a Word package per tree as a .zip with text and images as separate files, an Excel file and a CSV with one row per record, GeoJSON, and a full backup as a .zip. All of them go through the iOS share sheet, so you choose where the file ends up. Nothing is sent anywhere automatically.

If you email a file, upload it to a project archive or store it in a cloud service, the terms and privacy practices of the service you chose apply. From that point the file is outside the app's control, and its content is your responsibility.

iCloud backup

If you have iCloud Backup enabled, the app's content may be included in that backup, in the same way as the content of other apps. That copy sits in your own iCloud account with Apple, not with the publisher. Apple's terms govern that processing, and you control it yourself in Settings.

App Store purchases

The subscription is bought, renewed and cancelled with Apple. The app asks Apple's purchase system on the device whether the subscription is active, and uses the answer only to decide whether recording and editing are open. No information about the purchase is sent to the publisher or to any third party.

Purchases and downloads are handled by Apple. The publisher receives payment and sales figures from Apple in aggregate form, without information identifying individual buyers. If you have chosen to share usage and crash data with developers in your iOS settings, the publisher receives that from Apple as anonymised, aggregated statistics. You can turn it off under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

This website

This site uses no cookies, no visitor analytics and no content loaded from other sites. The provider hosting the server keeps ordinary technical traffic logs, including IP address and timestamp. Those logs are used for operation and security, not to follow individual visitors.

Your rights

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you the right to access, rectification, erasure and data portability. Because the publisher holds no information about you, you exercise those rights directly in the app: you see all the content there, you correct it, you export it in open formats, and you delete records one by one. To remove everything at once, delete the app from the device — the database and the photos go with it.

If you nevertheless believe your privacy has not been respected, contact the publisher at support@byggjournal.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, or with the supervisory authority in your own country.

Children

The app is built for professional use and is not directed at children. It collects no information about any user in any case.

Changes

If the way the app handles data changes, this policy is updated before the change takes effect, and the date above is set to the new one. Earlier versions are available on request.

In short: your records never leave the device. The only thing the app sends out is "show me this map tile".
